Once you have located the reservoir, open the cap and check the fluid level. If the fluid is low, it is time to add more. To do this, simply unscrew the cap and pour the power steering fluid into the reservoir. Be sure to use the correct type of fluid specified in your vehicle’s manual. The most common types are ISO VG 46, ISO VG 68, and GM DEXRON II.

When adding the fluid, it is essential to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. Overfilling the reservoir can lead to air bubbles in the system, which can cause steering issues. Conversely, underfilling can result in a lack of power steering assistance. Aim to keep the fluid level between the MIN and MAX marks on the reservoir.

After adding the fluid, securely close the cap and start your vehicle. Let it idle for a few minutes to allow the fluid to circulate through the system. Then, turn the steering wheel from side to side a few times to ensure that the fluid is evenly distributed. Once the fluid has been properly circulated, turn off the engine and check the fluid level again. If necessary, add more fluid and repeat the process until the level is correct.

Remember to check your power steering fluid regularly, as low fluid levels can lead to increased wear and tear on your power steering components. By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your power steering system remains in good working order and provide a safer and more comfortable driving experience.
